Both Marble and Travertine are natural stones derived from limestone but are formed under different circumstances.
Marble is formed when a sedimentary carbonate rock, such as limestone, undergoes metamorphism from exposure to heat, pressure, or a chemical reaction. The veining in marble is actually created when mineral impurities are present during this metamorphism. For this reason, minor pits and fissures are to be expected and are not faults within the marble but rather a part of it.
Travertine is also a form of sedimentary limestone but is formed around mineral spring deposit and is characterised by irregular pits and holes across its surface when left unfilled. It was widely used in ancient Rome, including the Trevi Fountain, and is still common today. Its name is a reference to Tivoli in Italy, the home to Travertine quarries. Whilst Travertine naturally has many holes in it, we do offer smoother options with our Filled & Honed and Filled & Polished Travertine both of which are filled at the quarries with a buff- coloured resin which may vary in tone from the stone.
We work with 2cm thick marble and travertine slabs as standard. Some items may use a thicker material which will be highlighted.
For now, we are an online only business which helps us to ensure our prices are competitive however, you can order a box of samples to see the stone in person. The samples will give you an overall impression of the material but as natural stone varies from slab to slab, we cannot guarantee an exact match.
Absolutely. We can create pieces to suit different sizes and colours. If you have a design in mind or would like to talk about options, please get in touch here.
Whilst our tables are sealed, prolonged exposure to water, oils (including candle wax) or liquids and foods that can stain such as coffee and beetroot should be avoided. To maintain the beauty of your new piece for as long as possible we suggest using placemats and coasters for cups, plates, and dishes to avoid water rings and heat marks. We recommend re-sealing your table every 6-12 months using a marble impregnator.
To clean your item, wipe the surface with a soft damp cloth and follow with a little warm water or a non-abrasive light neutral detergent before wiping dry with a lint-free cloth.
Applying a natural marble wax across the entire surface of your piece can add a little extra protection. Extra caution should be taken to avoid using coarse cleaning materials such as scouring pads and acidic or abrasive cleaners. For further information, please read our Natural Stone Care Guide.

It is your responsibility to ensure that items will fit in to your property. Before placing your order for a furniture item, we recommend that you measure the intended space along with all access points within your property to ensure that we're able to successfully deliver your item.
